Sin is Ignorance

Lately a Christian woman on my mailing list has been getting on my case claiming I am sucked in by new age (even if I were I don't believe it is wrong since it teaches love, light and unity- same core as Christ teachings)

So many Christians focus on the teachings after he died, sin and his death on the cross, etc. instead of focusing on the words he spoke while he was living. Greatest commandment and he emphasized it over and over, was love, love your neighbor as yourself. Instead most Christians in the mainstream choose to ignore his most important words and focus on sin in everyone and everything, causing war after war, riot after riot, separation, laws against certain groups, and damnation for being born a certain way.

She insists that sin is not ignorance. But I believe that is just what it is. Below is a good article that sums up pretty much my belief.

Todd

THE ONLY SIN IS IGNORANCE
Mankind is tripartite. That is, we consist of spirit as well as mind and body. if this were not so, then the injunction that we should love God with body, mind and spirit would have no validity.

This spirit within is, according to the great master Jesus, God operating within us. "Know you not that you are the temple of God, that the spirit of God lives in you?"

The primary purpose of meditation is to get to know and understand your own mind, the ultimate purpose is indeed unitive knowledge of the spirit. Not intellectual knowledge, but empirical knowledge through direct, personal experience.

The Buddhists speak of the Godhead as being tripartite. The Dharmakaya, or the Absolute seat of all being. The Sambogakaya, or personalised God; Yahwah, Jehovah, Allah etc. The Nirmanakaya, or materialised Avatar; Krishna, the Buddha, Jesus, etc.

Unfortunately, we confuse the concepts we have of God with the intellectually unknowable Godhead, and so we quarrel and even go to war with those who hold a different concept of the inconceivable. We fight over labels, and the last place we look for God is within. No only within ourselves, but in all Beings. Even in seemingly inanimate objects. "Lift the stone and you will find me, cleave the wood and I am there." Yet we still put God outside ourselves. No wonder we judge ourselves as being unworthy sinners.

"When goodness grows weak, when evil increases, I make myself a body. In every age I come back to deliver the Holy, to destroy the sin of the sinner, to establish righteousness."

"He who knows the nature of my task and my Holy birth is not reborn. When he leaves this body he comes to me."

"Flying from fear, from lust and anger, he hides in me; his refuge and safety. Burnt clear in the blaze of my being in me many find home."

These are the words of the Lord Krishna as written in the Bhagavad Gita. There have been many avatars before Krishna and there have been many avatars since him. All are manifestations of the Christ consciousness. That is, the Messianic or teaching aspect of God. he who delivers from ignorance.

No group or religion has an exclusive right to this consciousness. It is not only arrogance, but a denial of God to think otherwise.

The only sin is ignorance.

    Hi Todd,

I came across your blog while I was "surfing" and I've been debating on whether I should comment on what you posted. I've decided that I will, but before I do I want to share this scripture with you.

(Col 3:12) Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender feelings of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering,

(Col 3:13) forbearing one another and forgiving yourselves, if anyone has a complaint against any. As Christ forgave you, so also you do.

(Col 3:14) And above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfectness.

Of course, if you don't believe the Holy Bible then what I just quoted and what I will be quoting will mean absolutely nothing to you. However, I sense that you either want to believe, or you believe some of the Holy Bible.

I am not a debator. I don't like to argue, and I try to "do all things in love". I do not claim to be perfect as that would be foolish of me to do so; nor do I claim to "know it all". I would say that I'm just a student of life and I'm learning daily.

Since I am not on your mailing; I do know what you teach, preach, or share with those who are on your list.
But, because I have read your post I can only comment on that.
Please keep in mind that I am not "slamming" you, nor am I saying anything out of anger. Only in love do I share this with you - and kindness.

First, in response to what you said as the greatest commandment, I would respond with this scripture:

(Mat 22:36) "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?

(Mat 22:37) And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

(Mat 22:38) This is the great and first commandment".

    then, we are to:

(Mat 5:44) "But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you,"
    and also in

(Luk 6:26) "Woe to you when all men shall speak well of you! For so their fathers did to the false prophets"

(Luk 6:27) "But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you"

The Christians "in the mainstream" that I know of are not perfect and sometimes they do focus on the bad in people instead of the good. Shame on them! But, are we any better than they if we judge them? Of course not.
But truly, shouldn't our focus be on the Lord? With "all our heart, soul, and mind"? This is, after all the Greatest Commandment.

In response to what you said about "sin is ignorance", I once again go to the scriptures.
(Jam 4:17) "Therefore to him who knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin".

The Holy Bible clearly tells us what is sin and what is not sin. God gave us a simple list of rules to follow in what we know as "The Ten Commandments". I've pasted them from "The Message" Bible to make it easier to understand.

(Exo 20:1) GOD spoke all these words:

(Exo 20:2) "I am GOD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of a life of slavery.

(Exo 20:3) No other gods, only me.

(Exo 20:4) No carved gods of any size, shape, or form of anything whatever, whether of things that fly or walk or swim.

(Exo 20:5) Don't bow down to them and don't serve them because I am GOD, your God, and I'm a most jealous God, punishing the children for any sins their parents pass on to them to the third, and yes, even to the fourth generation of those who hate me.

(Exo 20:6) But I'm unswervingly loyal to the thousands who love me and keep my commandments.

(Exo 20:7) No using the name of GOD, your God, in curses or silly banter; GOD won't put up with the irreverant use of his name.

(Exo 20:8) Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

(Exo 20:9) Work six days and do everything you need to do.

(Exo 20:10) But the seventh day is a Sabbath to GOD, your God. Don't do any work--not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servant, nor your maid, nor your animals, not even the foreign guest visiting in your town.

(Exo 20:11) For in six days GOD made Heaven, Earth, and sea, and everything in them; he rested on the seventh day. Therefore GOD blessed the Sabbath day; he set it apart as a holy day.

(Exo 20:12) Honor your father and mother so that you'll live a long time in the land that GOD, your God, is giving you.

    (Exo 20:13) No murder.

    (Exo 20:14) No adultery.

    (Exo 20:15) No stealing.

(Exo 20:16) No lies about your neighbor.

(Exo 20:17) No lusting after your neighbor's house--or wife or servant or maid or ox or donkey. Don't set your heart on anything that is your neighbor's."

It doesn't get any clearer than that if you ask me.
No, sin is not ignorance, it is intentional defiance and disobedience to what God has specifically told us to do or not to do.

Meditation is "to contemplate or reflect on".

Again, I go to the scriptures.

(Phi 4:8) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think (contemplate, ponder, or reflect) on these things".
Contemplate means "to ponder or meditate".
Ponder means "to weigh in the mind with thoroughness and care".
As I understand meditation then, it is not "to know and understand your own mind" instead we are to seek the heart of Jesus and therein we will find all the things we are to "get to know".

God is not within us unless we invite him into our souls (some would say hearts). I base this belief on
(Rev 3:20) "Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me".
The key word here is "open". He can't come in unless we invite Him in.

Man is not a divine being as so many are trying to teach, instead he is a sinner (who can be saved through & by the Grace of Jesus).
This is a description of man according to the Holy Bible.
(Jer 17:9) "The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?"

(Mar 7:14) And he called to him the multitude again, and said unto them, Hear me all of you, and understand:

(Mar 7:15) there is nothing from without the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.

(Mar 7:21) For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,

(Mar 7:22) covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness:

(Mar 7:23) all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.

You see, because Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden , we all are born into a world of sin. It's not our fault, but that's the way it is.
However; God provided a way to deliver us from ourselves and from eternal damnation.

(Rom 6:23) "For the wages of sin is death *meaning Hell*; but the free gift of God is eternal life *meaning Heaven* in Christ Jesus our Lord".

(Act 4:10) "be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole.

(Act 4:11) He is the stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was made the head of the corner.

(Act 4:12) And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved".

Jesus is our salvation. Not "lord Krishna"...only Jesus.
(Joh 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me."

It is not "like" me to respond to blogs such as yours. My personality is to avoid controversial issues. While I may have my own opinions and beliefs, I usually do not engage in arguing and fighting over issues such as this. I believe my heart wanted to reach out to yours because God sent His Son Jesus to die for the world. That means you and me and the rest of mankind. But only you or I have that choice to make of whether we'll be with Him in Glory. Personally, I want to be there and my hope and prayer is that you'll desire that too.

I leave you with this scripture:

(Phi 2:5) Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

(Phi 2:6) who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped,

    (Phi 2:7) but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men;

(Phi 2:8) and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.

    (Phi 2:9) Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name;

(Phi 2:10) that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth,

(Phi 2:11) and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

One day we will have to confess before God that Jesus is Lord...I hope you will be able to do this because you know Him personally.

    In all sincerity,
    Jesusgrl
