Hidden Spy Camera & Mic Found Inside Digital TV Box

This is just crazy, not that the story sounds crazy, but that Cable companies and the government continue to get away with invasion of privacy in the claims they are seeing what their customers enjoy watching, can't they just take a survey instead of peeping into our homes?

Original story at this following link.

A popular video circulating on You Tube shows the discovery of a spy camera and a microphone hidden inside a digital TV converter box. Such devices are part of a government and industry surveillance program that is undoubtedly connected to the forced digital TV switchover being rolled out in the UK and US.

“I could not believe my eyes,” states the blurb accompanying the video clip, “I have a friend who is kind of a conspiracy theorist. He was trying to convince me that many of the digital TV convert boxes that are coming out have microphones and cameras built into them. Knowing a bit about electronics I bought one of these devices opened it up fully intending on proving him wrong. To my surprise he was right. This device has both a miniature camera lens and what looks like a microphone. I was so shocked I took pictures and video. Please send this out to everyone you know who is using one of these devices.”

Well according to Urban Legends web site, they claim this article / you tube video / and other private researchers are all hoaxing us with this story. That is possible, perhaps I should tear apart a few boxes myself.

His main argument is that there is no "wireless" in a cable box to send out a signal in order for the camera and mic to work. It is obvious based on that assumption alone the guy claiming it is a hoax is not technologically savvy. It would not need wireless internet capability, it is sending the data back and forth across the cable lines, DUH. What do you think a cable modem does?

Second yes it would be illegal to do such, and that is the whole reason people posted the article. If it is indeed a hoax, why go through so much trouble?

Yes the government has, and does spy on us illegally, through a cable box, or through satellite, Bush spent millions to spy on our own citizens, claiming to make our country safe and more free, but instead has taken away privacy.
